Jerry M. Wanitschek-Gilmer, MS, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

My name is Jerry, and I have over 35 years of experience in the mental health field, working with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults in various roles. My career began in the juvenile justice system, working with at-risk youth. I later transitioned into Christian education and served as an ordained minister before returning to counseling.

I have supervised programs supporting at-risk children, youth, and families within Child Protective Services, helping to prevent foster care placements and facilitate family reunification. I then moved into geriatric behavioral health, assisting individuals through life transitions, chronic pain, aging, grief, and chronic medical conditions while also providing community education and case consultation.

For the past seven years, I have focused on traditional psychotherapy, working with individuals facing challenges such as addiction, trauma, and life transitions. My experience includes treating substance use disorders, behavioral addictions, and a wide range of mental health concerns.

Education and Training

  • I earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Science from Southern Oregon State College (now Southern Oregon University) with a focus in Sociology and Psychology, along with minors in Communication and Philosophy. I hold a Master of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from National University.

  • My therapy approach is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, with additional training in Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. My seminary background also includes training in Pastoral Counseling.
