Psychology Today Profile

Susan Robens, MA, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

Life is full of transitions, and these shifts often tug at our sense of identity. Times of uncertainty can heighten anxiety, deepen depression, and even trigger past trauma—leaving us feeling “stuck.” Becoming unstuck, like kicking aside a pebble, can open the path toward healing and wellness.

Children experience these changes too, though they may not have the words to express what they feel. When parents and children are both overwhelmed, it can create a buildup of emotions in need of relief and direction. I work with both children and adults, helping families navigate parenting challenges, strengthen attachment, and find balance through divorce and other transitions.

I welcome clients of all ages and backgrounds. My therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and somatic practices as stepping stones toward healing. For clients navigating Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, I am certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy. I also work with international third-culture children and adults who face unique identity challenges.

Often, we suffer when change happens where we don’t want it, or doesn’t happen where we wish it would. Searching for identity while pushing against life’s boulders can leave us feeling trapped. But healing is possible—you don’t have to fight the boulders. You can learn to flow like a river, transforming obstacles into pebbles along your path.
